In this article, I integrate symbolic threat dynamics into a theoretical discussion of religious change. Specifically, article demonstrates how can lead to increases in salient collective characteristics among members the threatened group. To make case, examine and historical idiosyncrasies East West Germany. context Germany, find dramatic reduction activity right-wing between 1999 2017, as well strong relationship secularity fear foreign domination.
